Fatal multi-vehicle collision in Surrey

One person died in a collision involving multiple vehicles in Surrey on Tuesday April 19.

Police arrived at 108 Avenue, near 140 Street, around 6:40 p.m.

According to an RCMP news release, the driver of an eastbound pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while two occupants of a second vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A witness from the sequel recounted black press media that a total of seven vehicles were involved, including a transit bus. Firefighters had to use Jaws of Life and other equipment to extract a driver, but that individual died at the scene, the witness said.

Due to the nature of the collision, 108 Avenue was closed between 139 and 140 streets for several hours while police investigated.

The road was reopened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday (April 20).

The Gendarmerie’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has footage of the area from the time it happened is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 605-599-0502.
