Fort Bliss biker killed in crash on northeast El Paso Freeway

A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident Saturday night on the Patriot Freeway in northeast El Paso, police said.

The collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle occurred shortly before noon on the northbound lanes of US 54 near Diana Drive, police said.

A police investigation revealed that a 32-year-old Fort Bliss man was riding a 2013 Suzuki GSX-R750 sportbike at high speed northbound on the highway, a news release said.

The motorcyclist attempted to pass between two vehicles that were in two lanes ahead of him, police said. The motorcyclist lost control and struck the rear of a 2008 Honda Civic driven by 18-year-old Evan Israel Neria of Chaparral, New Mexico.

The man fell from his motorcycle, landed on rocks and died at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The motorcyclist’s name has not been released by police pending notification from his family.

The crash is being investigated by the police’s Special Traffic Investigation Unit.
