An air ambulance, fire brigade and a heavy police presence are at the scene of an accident in Oldham, Greater Manchester, after a motorbike slammed into a car this morning.

Officers cordoned off a section of the road following the crash on High Barn Street in Royton around 11am and it has not yet been confirmed how seriously injured those involved are.

Reports from the scene on social media suggest the road will likely be closed for ‘hours’.

A resident said she heard about the crash moments after it happened on social media.

She said Manchester Evening News: ‘I saw it on Facebook seconds after it happened.

“A woman said there had been an accident and the helicopter was coming, so there were a lot of people watching it.”

Another onlooker told the outlet: ‘I passed by about an hour ago and saw the crash. Sounds pretty bad, I’m so sorry for everyone involved.

A van from the road intervention unit is also said to have arrived on the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: ‘This is a serious collision involving a car and a motorbike. Our response to this is ongoing.

“Any information should be given to us online via LiveChat or by calling 101 quoting incident 1045 of 15/04/2022.”

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson said: ‘At 11.00am this morning (Friday April 15) we received a report of a road traffic accident involving a motorbike and a car on High Barn Street, Royton.

“A Chadderton fire engine attended the scene, where firefighters worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service.”

Oldham Deputy Leader of Council Amanda Chadderton tweeted about the crash.

She said: ‘There has been a very serious accident near the center of Royton, emergency services are all at the scene and are asking people to avoid the area. Thinking of those affected by this and their families.
