The CMPD is investigating a fatal collision with a vehicle which caused one death

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle collision Friday that left one person dead.

Authorities identified the victim as Sandra Medina Gama, 32.

According to a statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, at approximately 7:54 p.m. officers responded to 12314 Caldwell Road in reference to a two-vehicle crash call.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a damaged 2003 Volkswagen Passat on the left side. Gama, the driver of the vehicle, was unresponsive inside the Volkswagen.

Officers also located a 2016 Audi A6 with its driver, Loretta Kimberly Peart-Evans, 26, injured in the accident. No other occupants were involved in this accident.

When Medic arrived on the scene, they pronounced Gama dead. Peart-Evans was taken to hospital with a minor injury.

According to the CMPD investigation, the victim was traveling southwest on Caldwell Road and entered a left curve in block 12000 at high speed.

Gama had veered to the right of the road then overcorrected to the left.

When the Gama re-entered the carriageway, his Volkswagen spun out of control crossing the central double yellow line.

The Volkswagen then rammed the driver’s side of the Audi. The Audi was driving northeast.

Speeding and not wearing a seatbelt are contributing factors for Gama in this accident. Impairment is unknown as a toxicology report is pending.

Peart-Evans was not intoxicated at the time of the accident and was wearing a seat belt. Speed ​​was not a factor for Ms. Peart-Evans.
