3 officers injured in arrest after driver fled Danforth crash that left 2 injured: Toronto police

Five people have been taken to hospital, including three police officers, following a collision between two vehicles which resulted in a police foot chase on The Danforth.

It happened at the intersection of Danforth and Jones Avenues around 8:23 p.m.

“A vehicle was traveling eastbound at high speed then crossed the westbound lanes resulting in a head-on collision,” the sergeant said. Andrea Harris told CP24 at the scene.

One of the vehicles hit a pole following the collision, Toronto police said.

“The driver of the speeding vehicle then fled on foot,” Harris said.

The police caught up with the suspect on the street. He was arrested and is currently being held in hospital, where he is being treated.

“During the arrest, unfortunately, three officers were injured,” Harris said. “One of them has major injuries, but they will be fine.”

Two adults involved in the crash were transported to a trauma center with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Toronto Paramedic Services said.

The police were also taken to hospital.

Traffic services are investigating the collision.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
