4 dead and 3 injured in a head-on collision in South Carolina | South Carolina News

ANDERSON, SC (AP) — Four people have been killed and three others injured in a shipwreck on Highway 81 in Anderson, South Carolina, authorities said Saturday.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. Friday. Three people were trapped in their vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person died hours later while undergoing surgery at Prisma Health in Greenville, South Carolina, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said.

Deputy Chief Coroner Don McCown identified the victims as William Larry, 48; Drew Visioli, 71; James Lovorn, 75; and Peggy Visioli, 71.

All four are from Anderson, he said. Each of the victims had multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma, the coroner’s office said.

Investigators say Larry, the driver of a Ford Expedition, was traveling south on Highway 81 when he crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a northbound Honda driven by Drew Visioli.

An 11-year-old boy in Larry’s vehicle was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries, while a 2-year-old boy in the back of Visioli’s car received minor injuries. Another person in the Honda was seriously injured and is being treated at Prisma Health.

A Ford Expedition dog also died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
