Castlegar woman dies from injuries sustained in May vehicle collision near Genelle

A 78-year-old Castlegar woman died of serious injuries sustained in a collision May 31 on Highway 22 near Genelle.

At the time of the incident, one occupant was extracted using the Jaws of Life and two patients were transported to hospital by ambulance.

According to RCMP Sgt. Trail RCMP’s Mike Wicentowich was notified July 19 that the passenger of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata involved in the crash had died of her injuries. The actual date of death is unclear.

He said the case was referred to the BC Coroner’s Service after notification of the woman’s death.

The driver’s license status of the 81-year-old Castlegar woman who was driving the vehicle is being reviewed by the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, Wicentowich added.

Trail RCMP are not laying criminal charges against the driver in this incident.
