Collision in Ocala, Florida kills biker on Monday morning

A fatal traffic accident occurred Monday morning at South Pine Avenue and Southwest 17th Street, according to the Ocala Police Department.

The crash happened around 6:50 a.m., and for hours the southbound lanes of South Pine Avenue were blocked and traffic was rerouted southeast to 17th Street, according to Jeff Walczak, chief public information from the OPD.

According to Ocala police, a northbound dump truck on Pine was turning left onto 17th Street and collided with a motorcycle traveling south on Pine.

The biker died. As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, his name had not been released by police.

This motorcycle was involved in a fatal crash Monday morning (June 6, 2022) in Ocala.

The dump truck was marked “R&L Transport, Inc., – Construction Division”. The driver declined to comment.

OPD Traffic Homicide Investigator William Joedicke said the dump truck had on-board video. The condition of the traffic light and who had the right of way is still under investigation.

Two additional motorcycle accidents

Later Monday, the Ocala Police Department investigated a second motorcycle accident. In this case, a motorcycle with a driver and a passenger was traveling south on Pine Avenue when it was struck by a vehicle crossing Pine from Northwest Eighth Avenue, according to a Facebook post from the OPD.

The motorcyclist and his passenger were both transported to a local hospital.

Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, a motorcycle carrying a driver and passenger collided with a Chevy Suburban on State Highway 200 outside Olive Garden, OPD reported on Facebook.

The accident happened when the Suburban was turning left or east while exiting Olive Garden and collided with the motorcycle, a 2018 Yamaha heading west on the SR 200.

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were hospitalized, as were the two occupants of the Chevrolet. The driver of the motorcycle died on Sunday, according to OPD.
