Driver who escaped Opelousas train collision wants to set the record straight, ‘I didn’t do it for the insurance money’

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A new video posted on KLFY shows the horrific moment a train slammed into a stuck vehicle on Opelousas tracks.

The driver, fortunately escaped, is now reliving her experience.

“He just cut the power completely. Nothing would happen. I couldn’t turn it on, I couldn’t put it in reverse or nothing,” Ann Guillory recalled.

The video shows an Opelousas policeman trying to stop the train, but soon has to flee as the sound of the train’s horn gets closer and closer. Seconds later, the train collided with the vehicle.

“I couldn’t do anything but let the train run its course. The police tried. He did his best to stop her, but the train was going too fast. They couldn’t stop with all that metal,” Guillory recalled.

She says she and her 48-year-old son escaped the disabled vehicle just 30 seconds before the crash.

“It was not good. It was horrible. At least I lost a vehicle and not my life.

Guillory says that since the collision, rumors have multiplied and she wants people to know the truth.

“No, I didn’t do it for the insurance money. I did not attempt to operate the train.

She says her car stalled on the tracks about ten minutes before she even saw the train arrive.

Although it’s disheartening, she says she remains grateful that she and her son are gone with their lives.

“If your car stops on the train tracks, the only thing I can tell you is to get out and let that train take it. That’s what I did. It’s not about no trying to lose your life behind a vehicle. You can always get another vehicle, but you can’t get another life.
