Cyclist injured in motorcycle hit-and-run accident on Highway 299
TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (May 31, 2022) – 75 years old Jacques Loren suffered injuries in a motorcycle collision on Highway 299.
The incident happened around 3:10 p.m. on Highway 299 near the Salyer store on May 24.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Loren was riding his motorcycle east on the highway while a 1987 Toyota was traveling west.
Investigators say the driver of the Toyota did not yield to the motorcyclist. As a result, Loren was unable to brake in time and the two vehicles collided.
The impact ejected the rider from his motorbike onto the road, leaving the 75-year-old seriously injured. Paramedics quickly responded and transported Loren to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, officers reported that the Toyota driver exited his vehicle and entered a white Toyota FJ Cruiser before driving off.
At present, an active investigation is still ongoing. Additionally, CHP officers urge anyone with information to call Officer T. Fornaciari at the CHP Trinity River Area office at (530) 623-3832.
When driving, it is important to always be alert to pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles. Avoid distractions and keep an eye on the road. Plus, drive within posted and enforced speed limits to reduce accidents. Always be careful on the road in front of you to ensure everyone’s safety.
