Five members of a family were killed on Sunday after a truck collided with their car in Maharashtra’s Amravati district on their way to a wedding ceremony, police said.
The car was completely damaged due to the impact of the collision. Two wheels of the truck also came off after the accident, which took place on the Nandgaonpeth-Devalgaon ring road, they said.
The family, from Anjangaon Surji village, were heading to Nandgaonpeth via Walgaon to attend a wedding ceremony. When the car arrived near Pote College, its driver attempted to overtake a two-wheeler. At this time, an oncoming truck collided with the car. The truck then slammed into a utility pole, broke it and jumped across the road, a Nandgaonpeth police station official said.
Four occupants of the car died at the scene, he said. Some workers working nearby rushed to the scene of the accident. They rescued one of the car’s occupants, who was rushed to hospital. The person also died during treatment, the official said.
The truck driver fled the scene after the crash, he said.
