CEDAR TOWN — A driver was injured in a collision between two vehicles Friday morning at the intersection of State Route 56 and Cross Hollow Road in Cedar City.
The incident, which happened shortly before 7:45 a.m., involved a white Jeep Liberty SUV and a black Mercedes sedan, each with a female driver as the sole occupant.
Cedar City Police Officer Patrick McCoy said the driver of the westbound Mercedes was attempting to turn left onto Cross Hollow when his car was struck head-on by the eastbound Jeep.
“There is some discrepancy on who had the right of way,” McCoy told Cedar City News at the scene. “We understand one of them ran a yellow light.”
The woman in the Mercedes was reportedly taken to hospital via Gold Cross Ambulance for treatment of leg and hip injuries.
The other driver was uninjured and remained on the scene while responders attempted to clear the scene.
Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage and had to be towed.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for nearly an hour, including partial lane closures, until the crashed vehicles were removed from the intersection by tow trucks.
McCoy said at the scene that no citations had yet been issued, but added that the incident was still under investigation.
