Motorcyclist killed in collision with unlicensed motorist in South Jersey

A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he slammed into the side of a car being driven by an unlicensed driver, authorities said.

On Sunday, May 29 at 4:23 p.m., Middle Township Police responded to the Dias Creek section of Middle Township for a car accident report.

The investigation found the passenger vehicle was stationary waiting for traffic to pass to make a left turn off Route 47 North into the Delsea Woods community driveway, police said.

The motorbike driven by Thomas Conroy of Franklinville was traveling north on Highway 47, Conroy attempted to evasively maneuver the motorbike to avoid a collision but was unable to do so in time, police said .

Conroy succumbed to his injuries at Cape Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, Rocio Ortiz-Martinez, received summonses for unlicensed driver, unregistered vehicle, uninsured motorist and fictitious license plates, police said.

Ortiz-Martinez was arrested for causing death or injury while driving without a license, police said. Ortiz-Martinez was released on summons.

Middle Township Accident Squad, Middle Township Major Crimes Unit, Middle Township Rescue Squad, Green Creek Fire Department, Cape County Sheriff’s Department May, Cape May County Fire Police and the Wildwood Police Department assisted in the accident.
