Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Shuniah

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police reports that on September 10e2022 at 10:00 p.m. with Superior North EMS, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services, and Pass Lake Fire, that first responders were dispatched to report a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Highway 11-17 at the intersection of the Highway 587 in Shuniah Township.

Police attended the scene and determined that a 4-door sedan had collided with a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the sedan was slightly injured. Highway 11-17 is closed at Lakeshore Drive for investigators to process the scene. The identity of the deceased will not yet be released as next of kin have not yet been notified.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision has been initiated by the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit, in conjunction with the OPP Forensic Identification Unit of Ontario.

The driver of the sedan was charged with Criminal Code subsection 320.14(3), Driving Causing Death. The identity of the accused will not be disclosed as the information has not yet been sworn.
