THOMPSONTOWN – Two people were slightly injured after their vehicle collided with a bear early Thursday morning in Juniata County, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

Police say Angela Weidman, 57, of Lititz, was driving her 2015 Hyundai Elantra at midnight along US 22/322 West in Delaware Township near the Pfoutz Valley Road exit when a bear was entered the roadway. Weidman told police she tried to slow down, but couldn’t avoid hitting the bear.

According to the report, the vehicle suffered disabling damage and came to rest along the shoulder of the road. Weidman and his passenger, Hope A. Shaub, 59, also of Lititz, suffered minor injuries. Weidman was taken to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital by the Thompsontown Ambulance League.

Police said Weidman was wearing his seatbelt, but Shaub was not wearing a seatbelt.
