State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision – Delaware State Police
Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the New Castle area on Wednesday evening last week.
On November 2, 2022, at approximately 6:34 p.m., a gray 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on New Castle Avenue as it approached the Rodney Drive intersection. At the same time, a 74-year-old woman, later identified as Mireille Mathis from Greenville, South Carolina, was walking west on New Castle Avenue, away from the crosswalk. As Mathis crossed the roadway, she was struck by the front passenger side of the Jeep, resulting in serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep was properly restrained and was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in this incident.
Mathis was transported to an area hospital for medical attention. Mathis remained in hospital until her death on the morning of November 7, 2022.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Soldiers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Sergeant J.
