Two dead in head-on collision on Friday

Two people from Silver City died in a head-on collision Friday after their car, driven by a 15-year-old man, crossed the center lane of State Highway 26 and hit another vehicle, according to a news release from the police. the state of New Mexico.

State Police officers were dispatched to SR 26 northeast of Deming around 3 p.m. for an accident involving a Toyota Tacoma and a Dodge pickup truck that was towing an RV.

“Initial investigation indicated that the Toyota driven by a 15-year-old male was traveling east on SR 26,” the statement said. “For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed the center line into the opposite lane of traffic and collided head-on with the westbound Dodge.”

Martyn Pearson, 38, and Alexandra Olsen, 40, who were passengers in the Toyota, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator, the statement said.

The driver of the Toyota, along with the 70-year-old driver and sole occupant of the Dodge, were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said, adding that alcohol does not does not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
