Accidents at intersections in Mississippi

The need to control traffic at intersections through the use of signs and signals has been around much longer than the modern automobile. Major cities and railroads used gas lamps by the 1860s, and by 1914 electric signals had been installed.

The driver who failed to obey the road sign, traffic light or the driving law will most likely be found guilty of any damages suffered in an accident at an intersection. Determining who is responsible for an accident at an intersection usually requires a thorough investigation of the events surrounding the impact.

In order to determine which driver was responsible for the collision, law enforcement, insurance companies and other involved parties must establish precisely which driver acted negligently and which had the right of way.

Some of the most common causes of intersection crashes in Mississippi include drivers who:

  • Do not stop at stop signs
  • Don’t wait their turn at four-way stops
  • Running red lights
  • Fail to yield right of way when making a left turn on the green
  • Failing to look for oncoming traffic when turning right on red

Following any traffic accident resulting in significant injury or material damage, an investigation will be conducted into the circumstances that existed at the time it occurred. The officers responding to the scene will take the first steps to understanding what happened and ultimately decide which driver broke which laws.
