Video shows dangers of distracted driving after multiple-car collision in Abu Dhabi

Video released by Abu Dhabi Police showed a multiple car collision caused by a distracted driver who failed to spot a broken down car in the middle of the road.

CCTV footage, released on the force’s social media on Friday, shows a small car coming to a stop on a busy highway in Abu Dhabi after suffering what appears to be a vehicle fault.

As several cars traveling behind him change lanes to avoid a collision, a van fails to spot the stationary vehicle and collides with it at high speed, despite a warning triangle in the road to alert oncoming traffic.

The force of the collision sends the car into multiple lanes and the van collides with a third vehicle, which then hits the back of a school bus parked on the side of the road.

Most of the other vehicles can then be seen slowing down to avoid the pile-up, with debris strewn across the road.

The force urged drivers to try to move to the hard shoulder, if possible, in the event of a breakdown and advised motorists to remain alert for vehicles that may be in trouble on the road.

Abu Dhabi Police frequently release videos showing traffic violations as part of a safety campaign to reduce road incidents and accidents.
