A vehicle collision that killed a woman Tuesday night in South Anchorage also temporarily closed lanes on West Dimond Boulevard while first responders investigated.

Anchorage police and medics were called to the intersection of West Dimond Boulevard and Jewel Lake Road shortly after 5 p.m. to a report of a collision with injuries on Tuesday, the police said in a report. A Ford F-350 traveling east on Dimond had collided with a Chevy Impala turning left of Dimond heading south on Jewel Lake Road, police said.

The female Impala passenger was taken by medics to hospital and later died of her injuries, police said. His identity will be revealed once police finish notifying his family, police said. The driver of the Impala, a man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

There were no passengers in the Ford F-350 and the driver was not injured, police said.

Police closed all eastbound lanes from West Dimond Boulevard to the intersection with Jewel Lake Road while investigators dealt with the scene. All lanes had reopened at 10:40 p.m.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, police said, and no citations have been issued at this stage.
